BECOME A BEEKEEPER

Objectives

1. Educate youth in the art of beekeeping to promote a better understanding of the value of honeybees to our environment and ecosystem.
2. Provide an opportunity for youth to experience responsibility and enjoyment through beekeeping.
3. Provide an avenue for youth to engage in a vocation and gain skills to pursue beekeeping as a sideline of full-time vocation.

Awards

• One-year membership to Cherokee County Area Beekeepers (CCAB)
• Beginning beekeeper class registration and textbook
• Equipment – includes a complete hive, tools, safety jacket with veil, and gloves.
• A nuc or package of bees to populate the hive
• Mentoring by a CCAB member

Eligibility

• The applicant must be between the ages of 12 and 17 years old (by January 1 of application year).
• The applicant must be a resident within a 30 mile radius from Columbus, Kansas.
• The applicant must be currently enrolled in a public, private, or homeschool.
• The applicant must have signed permission and agreement from parent or guardian.
• The application must be submitted to the club by email, private message, or mail no later than October 1 of the application year.
