We'll be announcing the recipient of the 2020 CCAB Club Youth Scholarship at the February 15, 2021 Club Meeting.
Do you have your candy boards ready to go? Here’s one recipe from the Brad Raspet from Bingaling Bees.
5 cups water
1 tsp PtoHealth or Honey B Healthy
1 tsp Vinegar (helps with digestion)
Bring water to boil. Slowly add sugar and stir. Don’t Cover. Continue stirring, bringing to softball stage (243 degrees). Remove from heat. Cool to about 190 degrees. Add ProHealth and vinegar. Stir vigorously. Quickly pour into mold [we use cookie sheets with parchment paper]. Will be fudge hard at room temperature. Place on top of frames. You‘ll need either a spacer or empty super.
There are many places you can buy bees. We recommend you buy locally, so they're acclimated to our climate for the best results. Following are some local resources to consider:
• Bear's Bees – might have some later in the Spring 620-762-2051
• Deer Creek Honey Farm – Ron Smail $150/nuc (feral) 620-380-1452 (not confirmed for 2019)
• Phil and Patti Street – $150/nuc (feral) 620-875-1342 (limited quantity)
• Helms Family Farms – $160/nuc (feral) 417-439-3709
